Nevertheless, a sex object is what Croft would become. This gave her a real difference to other female game characters that were basically sex objects,” said Tomb Raider creator Toby Gard in an interview with The Guardian in 2006. “She was mysterious and had a danger about her. She was there to raid tombs and look hot while doing it, slaying everything from dinosaurs to an incredible amount of nameless goons in her wake. Instead, she was simply a girl with a pair of Windsor glasses, access to a vast armoury of weapons, a surprising imperviousness to cold weather, and a cocky personality. In the first few Tomb Raider games, Lara Croft wasn’t bogged down with the baggage of backstory her origin tale was reserved for the manual, telling her story from British aristocrat to world-famous adventurer. This newest animated version of Croft (she’s appeared hand-drawn before) also appears to combine the more pointy image of old-school Tomb Raider with the rounded realism of later games. And secondly, Netflix released the trailer for its upcoming series, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft. It was a bold redesign, one that amalgamated the pixelated classic Croft aesthetic with the more rugged depiction found in Square Enix’s 2013 reboot. First off, the intrepid explorer got a makeover for her appearance in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone. In fact, in 2023 Lara Croft has had not one, but two facelifts. Only Lara Croft can say she’s adopted the face of Angelina Jolie or taken on the voice of Minnie Driver (not, admittedly, at the same time), and boast of being chased by a T-Rex or fighting off a mutant spider from space. I thank you for reading and I hope you have a beautiful day.Is there a woman in history with more faces than Lara Croft? Ever since she began raiding tombs in 1996, wearing nothing but a tank top and brown booty shorts while wielding dual pistols and a French braid, her appearance has constantly morphed and mutated. But, if you’re bored like I was, and you need something kind of simple to watch this would be the film to turn on. It’s just an average matinee film that I don’t highly recommend. I’m giving this movie 75 out of a 100 and 3 out of 5 stars. It seems like the film’s conclusion was trying to set up a sequel and if there is one it’s going to need a lot of help if it’s going to be amazing. I was, however, hoping that it would be slightly enjoyable at least through some portions of the film and unfortunately it never was. This movie just wasn’t that good, which I’m not surprised about, considering that it didn’t garner many positive reviews last year. It felt like there would be more to this section of the story but the movie elected to focus on Lara Croft’s supposed evolution into the Tomb Raider rather than her actually raiding creepy tombs. I was very surprised at the lack of tomb raiding in the movie and then shortly after finding the treasure, which was a Japanese mummy that corrupts its victims who it comes in contact with the movie was basically over. This movie has an hour and fifty-nine-minute long runtime and yet even though this movie is called Tomb Raider I’d say it took until maybe an hour and twenty-five minutes into the film before she finally went into a tomb, and that’s being generous. The story was so predictable it was boring, the action was nowhere near as exciting as I’d hoped it would be, but what struck me the most was the lack of tomb raiding in this Tomb Raider movie. She’s basically the only thing good about the movie though. She looks fierce when she needs to be fierce and she actually looks like how you would imagine Lara Croft looking if it the character was in a movie. I recently played the Rise of the Tomb Raider game–which was very fun by the way–so it was exciting to watch the movie and know what’s going on.Īlicia Vikander does a great job portraying the character. Now, mind you, I’m very familiar with this character and her story. I was bored, I figured it would probably have some decent action in it, and so I watched Tomb Raider. People were excited to see the new Tomb Raider but unfortunately, it was an underwhelming comeback and I decided not to watch it…until last night. Last spring the Tomb Raider franchise got a reboot with Oscar-winning actress Alicia Vikander as the new film version of the iconic character Lara Croft.
